Oil on canvas from Sennelier 38 X 46 cm, mounted in a superb gilt frame with channels 58 X 66 cm. Signed and dated 1903. Our painting is a very thorough study but nevertheless with some variations for the huge one of the Dax savings bank recently sold by the ministry of Maître Briscadieu in Bordeaux. Lizal, very attached to his Landes where he spent most of his life, had another emblematic painter from the Landes as a pupil: Jean-Roger Sourgen. A champion of the beauty of everyday life, he never ceased to embody it on the canvas, multiplying his studies to give them the grandeur of the history paintings of his peers.
