Mum and girl in the living room
Henri Caro-Delvaille
1876-1928
Oil on canvas 73 X 61 cm, mounted in a large gilt frame “with ears” 85 X 95 cm. There are anecdotes that cannot be invented: we buy this painting at the other end of France and, during its cleaning, we learn that the Basque Museum of Bayonne has acquired its (very) Big Brother !
Admittedly, Caro-Delvaille as well as many other painters known as “of the School of Bayonne”, often pupils of Léon Bonnat, like Roby (his brother-in-law), Ogier, Etcheverry, Bergès, Zo, etc, are part of those we are looking for, but we do not find them every day and the coincidence is pretty, especially as this table is full of charm with the love shared of this mother with her daughter, its diagonal composition and the beautiful clothes. A detail of the painting made the cover of the magazine “Le Jardin des Modes Nouvelles” of October 15, 1913.
Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or phone.
