Emblematic monument of the Basque Coast, Fort Socoa, located in the town of Ciboure near Saint-Jean de Luz was decided by Henry IV, made by Louis XIII and improved by Vauban under Louis XIV!
Bertrand de Bonnechose , although born in Versailles and a student of Beaux-Arts in Paris, regularly painted the Basque Country and although his works are rare on the market, they nevertheless adorn many private and public collections, some having been exhibited at the Salon of French Artists of which he was Associate. Our painting, showing Fort seen from the South, in front of the Ocean and the Basque Coast, dates from its most interesting period, because dated 1927.
