The tawny stridence of this splendid painting is not without reminding those of other artists of the same period as Ambrogiani and Bézombes.
Montpelliérain at heart, he often treated the subjects of his region, also illustrating here and there a book. Here, this rotating grape harvest scene is centered on the man who empties his basket in the cart while the women pick the grapes with the baskets they carry to him.
The chromatic choice, purple for the shades and orange or acid green for the lights is surprising but very beautiful, just interpretation of a true artist.
