Carpet merchant on the beach
“Carpet merchant on the beach in Belgium”, oil on panel 69 X 133 mounted in a 70.5 X 134 cm edge cover strip. A little more recent than the other works that we present, probably at the end of the 1950s, this carpet merchant strolling on a Belgian beach, Ostend or Knokke le Zoute hardly manages to tempt summer visitors who are more occupied with bathing, sunbathing or sunbathing. of sand castles…
Superb composition treated in a rich and very seductive palette.
The thick wooden panel has twisted, but the work is in perfect condition. It was for us a real discovery that this beautiful Belgian artist !
Even found in leaves and dusty, these drawings, once prepared and framed, reveal all the talent of Dierickx, close to artists like Nicolas Eeckmann, Fritz Van den Berghe, Constant Permeke or other typically Flemish expressionists such as Anto Carte, representing Fêtes , processions, fairs in the great tradition of Flemish painters dating back to the 17th century with the Brughels, but treated with great modernity. Other facets of his work show us his projects for frescoes or large decorations, often exotic, while in the old watercolors, we find a Symbolist vein with an elongated barrel. We dedicated an exhibition to it (pdf catalog available by email) with the first ones found, but we have bought many since! Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or phone.
