Stil llife with eggplants
Rodolphe Theophile Bosshard
1889 – 1960
Oil on paper 30 X 40 cm mounted on panel, signed and dated 37 at the top right corner, mounted in a beautiful 1900 gilded frame 41 X 51 cm.
I’ve been interested in this Swiss artist for a long time now, whose vibrant nudes I admired, the outlines of which dissolve into the background…
I had a marvelous one about thirty years ago, still on paper, support whose mobility he liked. We find here, in this nonetheless trivial representation of three eggplants returning from the market, this sensual vein and this vibrant touch with which he adorns most of his works, all subjects combined. This painting was exhibited in 2009 at the retrospective dedicated to it at the Payerne Museum in the Canton of Vaud.
