Still life with autumn fruits
17th century
Oil on canvas 46 X 61 cm approximately, in a period frame 60 X 75 cm
This “Still life with autumn fruits” was painted in Italy in the 17th century. The composition oscillating between Caravagism and Baroque makes me place it around Napolitan painters, especially those that some relate to the Roman School, because they have also worked, but whose influences “southern”, almost Spanish are manifest. Around the famous Lucas Forte, of course we find the Recco dynasty, Michelangelo Cerquozzi said Spadino, from whom I had an extraordinary pair of Still Life Flowers and Fruits many years ago, and many others of which Giovani Battista Ruopolo (1626-1693) to which I will link this painting by this bloated side of the fruits almost a Botero of the XVIIth century! An other painting sold in November 2017 by Côte Basque Auction to Saint Jean de Luz, same dimensions, same hand, same frame and same provenance. Ours was however beautifully restored, lightened of its old repaints and put back on its original canvas. Do not hesitate to ask for photos or additional information by mail or phone. In partnership with Galerie Lafouresse, we are also specialists in paintings on the Basque Country, the Landes and the Bassin d’Arcachon.
