Oriental nude
Noël-René Chesneau
20th century
Oil on canvas 45 X 55 cm, signed and dated 1935, in a frame of the period 64 x 73 cm
Noël-René Chesneau was a pupil of the Laurens father and son, and it feels in this powerful composition with slightly vaporous contours. The Benezit tells us that he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français nudes and Moroccan scenes, so I think this nude to the big earring is Moroccan! If the plastic of the model can confuse today, this is a superb piece of painting for real amateur. The contrast of the textures, the polished silver bracelet on the skin, the purple scarf on the black hair on which stands the big earring, the diagonal composition, all amazes. Small restorations very well done. In partnership with Galerie Lafouresse, we have many regionalist works on the Basque Country, the Landes, the Gironde and Arcachon Bassin.
