Landscape at the river
Lucien Rollin ?
Gouache 34 X 49 cm, mounted in a sober frame with large marie-louise blanche 49 X 64 cm.
The surprising choice of this cavalier perspective to describe this village with slate roofs split in two by a river spanned by a bridge gives it a modernity served more by a classic and perfect composition by thirds with the red spots of the boats with numbers of gold which is not without making think of André Devambez…
The graphic design of the signature is not typical and made me wonder at length about the author with the help of Bénézit and Internet. An annotation “Rollin” on the back of the assembly which also includes numbers, probably from an exhibition, directed me to the most plausible: Lucien Rollin (1906-1993), decorator and architect who collaborated in particular with Rulhman but who also had a graphic activity of which I think, but without guarantee, that this work can be an example.
