Young Kabyle in Burnous
Marcel Canet
1875 – 1959

1875 – 1959
Oil on canvas 55 X 28 cm mounted on panel mounted in a flat oak frame with golden bevel 67 X 41 cm. Circa 1930. The moiré that we see in the photos is due to the camera and does not appear in real life. Divided between Brittany and Algeria (whose climates are somewhat opposite!), Marcel Canet had a career studded with honors for his work, both Breton and Orientalist. He gives us here an adorable portrait of a little Kabyle whose only face emerges from a huge burnous, treated in a very pure way typical of Art Deco, in the spirit of a Boutet de Monvel, in an elongated format that focuses on the child.
