Rasputin portrait ?
Russian school circa 1890
Oil on canvas 42 X 34 cm, mounted on panel, itself lined with a cardboard mounted in an old red and gold frame, slightly damaged 54 X 45 cm.
An inscription on the back reads “Rasputin” N. Bodarewski.
If they are plausible, these inscriptions are however not certified as much as they are in European characters and not in Cyrillic, perhaps they were transcribed from Russian inscriptions on the back? ..
Nicolaï Bodarevski (1850-1921) who was part of the famous group of itinerants and of which I had an exceptional painting was a remarkable portrait painter and this interior portrait of a man in the prime of life, bearded and parted in the middle, dressed in a coat gray that we can barely distinguish, seeming to read or pray could actually be attached to him and be that of Rasputin.
Difficult to photograph because of the reflections in the varnish, we will note the presence of some chips of it and wear on the right cheekbone. Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or phone.
