“Quiberon, the beach”, oil on cardboard to paint 21.5 X 26.5 cm, annotated and dated 1925 on the back, mounted in a pretty old gilded frame 32 X 38 cm.
I got to know this artist for the first time by purchasing a small painting representing the sea in Guéthary in the Basque Country and since then acquired a lot! If he is well known for his large paintings of the Salon, more or less allegorical in large format, we know less that he was a Master of the landscape, a genre that he practiced on the motif during his vacation rentals in small formats, often on cardboard or panel or for slightly larger formats, on canvas.
Undisputed virtuoso of rendering the nuances of the sea or the heavens, he gives us here a view of the beach of Quiberon in Brittany in gray weather with the blue sky appearing in the background.
Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or phone. In partnership with the Galerie Lafouresse, we are specialists in paintings on the Basque Country, the Landes and the Arcachon Basin.
