Thirteen paintings for the scenography of “La Casa de Bernarda Alba” by Federico Garcia Lorca, oils on canvas from 38 X 46 cm to 50 X 61 cm. Some show accidents and others are annotated with his name rather than signed. A protean artist of great modernity, she touched all the Arts, music, painting, batik, scenography and theatrical costumes as well as writing, linked to the Surrealist movement both in Madrid and in Paris before settling down. exile in Buenos Aires from 1937 to 1949 with her friend Margarita Xirgu where she also produced the first scenography of “La Casa de Bernarda Alba” in 1945. Most of these paintings appear later and must date from the sixties, probably made in the occasion of a new performance, but some seem older to me, perhaps some of those she would have brought back from her exile?
