Portrait of ocean n°4
Oil on panel 25 X 37 cm, mounted in a gray and silver reverse slope to marie-louise 37 X 50 cm.
Some time ago, I published a strange painting with the following text :
“I continue the exploration of my reserve by this painting whose signature still resists me. Those who follow me (who loves me follow me!) Know that I love the works representing the sea, these “Portraits of waves” which Paguenaud, Auguin, Despujols or Ogier left us so many splendid examples. Bought dirty and naked in the early morning on a flea market, I did clean and found a framework that puts it well worth, but damn signature ! Yet it is not anyone who has made this work, close-up on the movements of the water treated in large green keys blue and ivory bordering on abstraction.
I sold it quickly and a few days later, one of my esteemed confreres from the other side of France put one on sale.
I called him immediately, he knew little else, but had three others and especially the photo of an old label that appeared on the back of another with the address of the painter in Biarritz ! So it was a regional who described himself as “Oceanist Painter” …
Of course, I bought the lot and offers it today after cleaning. If I read Maddsaina, I think it should perhaps be interpreted as Saïna Madd, and therefore perhaps a woman.
Do not hesitate to ask for photos or additional information by mail or phone.
