crouting nude
Serge Ponomarew
Indian ink with brush on paper approximately 40 X 20 cm (irregular cut), signed lower right, numbered label and stamp of the workshop sale in L’Isle -Adam in 2003 on the back. Sergiusz Zygmunt Ponomarew was born in Minsk into a Russian-Polish family before coming to study sculpture in Paris in 1932, obtaining exhibitions, official commissions and successes, alternating graphic works and sculptures. This superb drawing, with a great certainty of almost Asian line, is reminiscent of the works of his contemporary San-Yu and, like him, proceeds to almost archaic deformations of the body, infusing him with great strength.
