Bouquet of red roses in an enamelled earthenware vase
Blanche Odin
1865 – 1957
Watercolor 26 X 32 cm presented in its period red, green and gold frame, “museum” glass and neutral pH mounting with cleats 35 X 41cm. A label from L. Locré, Toulouse and Luchon antique jewelry store on the back. If Redouté was the greatest watercolourist of flowers of the first half of the 19th century, Blanche Odin is the greatest of the first half of the 20th century. If, of course, it was her roses that so deservedly ensured her reputation, she excelled in the representations of all kinds of flowers as can be seen in the excellent works of Monique Pujo-Monfran or by visiting the Salies de Bagnères de Bigorre museum. Here, blooming roses of a deep red verging on purple, assembled in a bouquet provided in a ceramic vase decorated on a worked background.
