This drawing shows us figures dressed in the oriental style resting under the trees on the banks of a river where boats sailed by rowers, annotated “fresh water from Europe” relegated to the Marie-Louise “Near Constantinople »An indefatigable traveler, Achille Fouquier brought back sketches, anecdotes and observations from his many travels, collected in several books that were published. Whether from the Basque Country (he was mayor of Saint-Jean-de-Luz), Italy, Greece, the Balkans or the Middle East, his drawings taken from life are testimony to the history of these regions
