At the restaurant
Véronique Wirbel
1950 – 1990
Mixed technique (gouache, charcoal and collage) on paper 158 X 129 cm, mounted by the edges on a new canvas frame for its protection. We have chosen to present it without glass or frame for transport, but it is obvious that it will be necessary for display. Signed and dated 1986. This brasserie scene, with the busy waiters, two couples of lovers seated and a bachelor, abounding in tasty details such as the Lady kicking the man who is all stirred up, the slate on the wall that intertwines menu and writings, and many others that will be discovered. There are encounters which, a posteriori, seem obvious to you. This is the case with the work of Véronique Wirbel, who tragically passed away at barely 40 years old, teeming like a child’s imagination, colorful like the fabrics of Africa that she knew well from having spent her childhood there and communicative with a joy that apparently, alas! she didn’t share… Of course, we could find her related to Corneille, Basquiat or Aloïse, but she was Wirbel, quite simply. This painting comes from the personal collection of the gallery owner who introduced it to New York Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or telephone.
