Lady in the garden
Alexandre François Bonnardel
1867 – 1942
Oil on canvas 27 X 41 cm, mounted in a gilded frame (which reframes by hiding a good part of the canvas) older 38 X 48 cm (accidents) . Several small accidents to the canvas (see photo against the light). The artist reframed his painting more tightly around the subject, which gives us an idea of the final composition, perhaps for a large painting at the Salon de Lyon where he exhibited regularly. Thanks to Mr. Vinet whom I would like to warmly thank here, I finally know the author of our painting! This lovely study bearing an unidentified monogram had been enthroned in our room for more than 20 years. We had been seduced by the nonchalant attitude of the Lady, posing on a garden bench in front of the sunset. Although treated as a sketch, it is sufficiently advanced for one to distinguish the jewelry, ring and hairpin and the fan that it delicately holds… Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or telephone.
