Waves and seagulls
Jean Louis Paguenaud
1876 – 1952
Oil on panel 48 X 74 cm, mounted in a superb contemporary Parnassian frame 64 X 88 cm. You know that I particularly like these “sea portraits” in which Gueït, Auguin, Gélos, Ogier, Roby and precisely Paguenaud have excelled, to name only those who have worked in our region and we have gradually made it a specialty. , chasing them everywhere. It must be said that the universality of the theme appeals to an international audience that appreciates the subject and the quality of the treatment. He trained in Limoges and then in Paris with Bouguereau, but his true Master was the sea… Sailing regularly, he was appointed Official Painter of the Navy in 1922, which facilitated his access to the ships he regularly used all around. du Monde, bringing back views of the coasts of South America or Africa, from the Pacific to the Mediterranean, portraits of ships at sea, and therefore, my favorites, “Portraits of the sea” where only the waves are represented, sometimes animated by a ray of sunshine, a flight of seagulls or a ship on the horizon. This painting which, once cleaned and varnished, has regained all its beauty, can be attached to this last category: this view of formed waves, standing out against a vigorously removed sky, just animated by seagulls and the silhouette of a freighter barely visible on the horizon… Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or telephone. In partnership with Galerie Lafouresse, we specialize in paintings on the Basque Country, the Landes and the Bassin d’Arcachon.
