When we saw this academy, we fell in love with it.
Between Cormon and Comerre, but also close to certain studies of the Impressionists, its “non finito” side is even more attractive. With a wet “JD” stamp on the face and a wax seal with the same initials on the back, I presume these are the former owner’s and not the painter’s. The man, naked, in a slight low angle, with an aquiline nose and long hair, has the profile of an artist as well as a model! It stands out against a largely brushed background and deserves a little cleaning.
