The hunter

Gabriel Largeteau

1911-1969

Oil on canvas 100 X 65 cm, in an American case surmounted by a frame with black reversed slope black and gold 117 X 89 cm.

How could Gabriel Largeteau be forgotten dictionaries and other sites? He was a native of the Toulouse region and was a pupil of Devambez at the Beaux-Arts in Paris where he obtained the second second Grand Prix de Rome (bronze medal, what!) For his canvas Subject imposed “Rest” where we see women carrying the lunch to harvesters in a modern realistic style. His style evolved rapidly towards more “avant-garde” representations like our canvas dating from the 50s.  Not cleaned.
