Drawing 23 X 29 cm in red chalk heightened with pastel, slightly squared in white stone, named in a cartouche on the backing paper (damaged ) and bearing the stamp of the monogram, mounted by a Marie-Louise in a beautiful frame of the period faux-bois 44 X 50 cm. Circa 1870/80. Very successful study for one of the corner pieces of the ceiling of the Music Room of the Jacquemart-André Museum in Paris. The Artist, one of the most famous decorative painters of his time, was nicknamed “The French Tiepolo” for his magnificent ceilings.
