Atelier Madoura: “Divers or three characters on a springboard” 1956. Round/square convex wall plaque in white earthenware 19.2 x 19.1 cm. Engraving underlined with oxidized paraffin, covered bath, black patinated background. Ivory and brown decor. Intaglio stamps “Picasso’s original print” and “Madoura Plein feu”. Bears an old label fragment from Galerie 65, Cannes. Bibliography: – “Picasso – Catalog of the published ceramic work” by Alain Ramié (reproduced under n° 374 p 195. – Online Picasso Project by Professor Enrique Mallen 56-384 The collaboration between Picasso and the Atelier Madoura gave birth to many ceramics, sometimes unique pieces that the protean Artist produced directly in Madoura’s studio (MAison Suzane DOUly and Georges Ramier) and ceramics edited from the Master’s imprints.This plate knew three versions, each of a edition of 500 copies: completely white with just the relief, another in negative with black divers on a white background and ours.
